We have been working all winter processing fleeces from several Romeldale breeders to bring you Romeldale/CVM Top for your spinning pleasure. We are able to offer 6 natural colors.
· The American Romeldale/CVM is one of the rarest American sheep breeds.
· This breed is listed as critically endangered with the American Livestock Breed Conservancy (ALBC)
· Romeldale sheep are white, but the classic color pattern of the CVM is the badger-face; a light body with dark belly and head. This color pattern creates an array of different tones within a single fleece. Selection has increased the range of colors to include grey, black, brown, and moorit. Fleece colors darken during maturation rather than fading as the sheep ages.
· Fleece: Annually, each sheep grows an average of 6 to 12 lbs. of wool with an average yield of 65%. Staple length averages 3 to 6 inches with a Bradford count of 60 to 64 or 24.94 to 20.60 microns. The wool is soft and can be worn next to the skin.
· There are only a small handful of breeders working hard to protect this wonderful breed.
· This fiber is not offered commercially anywhere.
Come and take it for a spin. We will be attending the following shows this year.
